Hicks was suspended for Friday’s victory over Troy for a violation of team rules. According to coach Tony Dzikas, Hicks spoke with his teammates and Shen’s coaching staff Sunday. Dzikas will not speak further on the situation, but he said the school’s will be issuing a statement of Hicks’ departure today.

Hicks, a 6-foot-4 guard, averaged 20.6 points per game for the Plainsmen. He was a member of the 2014-15 Class AA state title team and started for the 2015-16 squad that advanced to the state semifinals.

“Luke Hicks has been a valuable member of the Shenendehowa boys varsity basketball team. Unfortunately, he has made the decision to no longer participate in basketball at Shenendehowa,” Shen Director of Athletics Chris Culnan. “We wish Luke all the best.”
