Siemens will build the new combined-cycle power plant gas based at Landivisiau (Finistère). The German industrialist announced on Wednesday that it was selected by the designer of the project, the Total Direct Energy. The amount of the order amounts to approximately € 450 million. The contract between Siemens and the Total Direct Energy provides for the operation and maintenance of the site for a period of twenty years.
The site of Landivisiau, with an installed capacity of 446 megawatts (MW), is expected to come into service during the second half of 2021. It should help alleviate the power supply of the Brittany, which produces less than 15% of the electricity it consumes. The region is home to any nuclear power plant. Landivisiau refers to a major industrial project, which meets the requirements of flexibility of the energy demand.
Initially, the combined-cycle gas – borne in the beginning by the only Direct Energy, before its acquisition in 2018 by the Total – would have had to start in 2016. But the multiple legal actions of environmental groups have held up the folder, point to maintain doubts about the outcome. In a press release, Siemens insists on the fact that the technology used to Landivisiau is both effective and respectful of the environment”.
Before being retained to construct the gas power plant in brittany, Siemens had a 40% stake in the project company. The development phase is completed, the new contract is accompanied by the transfer of the share in the Total Direct Energy. The oil group has displayed its ambitions in the supply of electricity in France.
