A fast-moving low pressure system bringing widespread light snowfall early Wednesday morning will quickly shift eastward by the afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

The snow will taper off to scattered snow showers and flurries in the afternoon, forecasters said. Temperatures will rise above freezing and into the upper 30s.

Brisk and cold conditions will then take hold Wednesday night through the end of the week, with intermittent lake-effect snowfall for mainly the western Adirondacks and western Mohawk Valley.

Accumulations around 1-2 inches are expected for much of the area, but higher amounts across the western Adirondacks of 3-6 inches.

Overall, January’s Albany snowfall was below normal with only 4.6 inches (13.3 inches below Jokerbet normal), the weather service said. The seasonal total is 19 inches, which is 15.7 inches below normal.
