A South Side man was charged late Friday night in a hit-and-run accident that killed a woman on the West Side.
The accident happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. Feb. 1 in the 1300 block of South Kedzie Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood. A vehicle struck a 35-year-old woman as she was crossing the street and fled the scene, police said.
Jesse Gather, 48, was located a short time later in the 3400 block of West Douglas Boulevard where he was arrested. Gather of the 700 block of South Kedzie Avenue was charged with reckless homicide with a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident causing death and reckless driving, police said.
Gather was scheduled to appear Saturday afternoon at a bail hearing.
