Bangor 54, Southern Lehigh 43 – Rapid Recap

A big third quarter set the table for the Bangor Area High School boys basketball team’s third consecutive league championship.

The top-seeded Slaters defeated second-seeded Southern Lehigh 54-43 in the Colonial League final on Friday night at Easton Area Middle School.

Turning point: Bangor took an 18-11 lead into halftime and came roaring out of intermission with a 10-point run to put the Spartans against the ropes.

Dylan Benton, who was named Colonial League Most Valuable Player before the game, started things off with a bucket. Reece Jones and Ben Holland followed with a pair of 3-pointers, and Seth Benton made two free throws to give Bangor a 28-11 advantage 2:10 into the third.

Top performers: Bangor’s zone defense stymied Southern Lehigh throughout the evening.

Dylan Benton finished with a game-high 14 points. Seth Benton tacked on 13 points and Anthony Schiavone had 11.

Sean Welsh paced Southern Lehigh (19-5) with 13 points. Kevin Patel added 12 points.

What it means: Bangor completed its Colonial League title three-peat and an unbeaten run (regular and postseason) against league competition this winter.

The Slaters have now won eight league titles in program history.
