Somehow, some way, the Baylor football program continues to astound.

Strength coach Brandon Washington was arrested at a Texas hotel Saturday morning on prostitution charges, according to WacoTrib.com. Washington, 33, was subsequently fired by the university and wiped from the school’s athletics website.

“After a full criminal background check was completed and cleared, Brandon Washington was recently hired as an assistant in the Football Strength and Conditioning area,” the athletics department wrote in a statement released Monday. “Baylor was notified on February 4 of Brandon Washington’s arrest and terminated his employment immediately that day.”

Washington, who worked under current Baylor head coach, Matt Rhule, at Temple University in 2016, was taken into custody by McLennan County police sometime after midnight Saturday, when he was caught allegedly soliciting a prostitute at the hotel, according to Sheriff Parnell McNamara.

He was released later that night after posting a $1,000 bond.

Rhule, who was introduced as head football coach in December, called his assistant’s behavior “unacceptable,” especially at a time when the program is trying to refine its image less than a year after three key figures — former head coach Art Briles, athletic director Ian McCaw and president Ken Starr — were fired for their involvement in covering up sexual assaults in a scandal that has disgraced former players, coaches and administrators.

“When we arrived at Baylor we made a commitment to character and integrity in our program,” Rhule said. “Brandon’s actions are completely unacceptable. We will not tolerate conduct that is contradictory to these values.”

Baylor has made the news repeatedly in recent weeks as new details emerge in the program’s string of sexual assault incidents. A lawsuit, filed on Jan. 27, accused 37 players of committing 52 rapes, including five gang rapes over a four-year period. Most recently, text messages were released by the university in response to a separate lawsuit that allege Briles was intimately involved in the widespread cover-up.
