Bulls forward Doug McDermott writes in The Players’ Tribune that he would have regretted not returning to play for father and coach Greg McDermott for his senior season at Creighton, but that doesn’t mean the relationship didn’t have its challenges.

  • Doug said he emphasized to teammates that he was on their side, not his father’s, but occasionally being his son did have special benefits. Sometimes, "I had to go into his office and be like, “Hey, can I get $20 for a movie?”
  • Chances are, Coach McDermott may have something to say about Doug’s shooting slump with the Bulls, if he hasn’t already. Doug is averaging 7.5 points this month and has totaled 7 points in 26 minutes over the last two games. "He was always going on about ‘improving my shot arc’ (which he still goes on about to this day)."
  • Doug draws comparison between his father and Bulls coach Fred Hoiberg, who followed Greg at Iowa State and preceded Doug as an Ames (Iowa) High School basketball player. "He always tells me that his Ames High team would have wiped the floor with the one that Harrison (Barnes) and I played for. (He’s obsessed with getting me to accept this.)"
