It seems a day doesn’t go by when Jimmy Butler’s name doesn’t surface in some sort of rumor or controversy involving the Bulls.
"It’s probably because I talk a little bit too much," Butler said after the Bulls’ 128-100 throttling of the Thunder on Wednesday night at Chesapeake Energy Arena.
It was then that Butler turned philosophical — in a DC Comics-type way.
"But in the wise words of Harvey Dent: ‘You either die the hero or you live long enough to become a villain,’" Butler said. "It is what it is but I’ll continue to be who I am."
Dent is the fictional super-villain known as "Two-Face."
Butler dropped 28 points and added five assists during the Bulls victory as he went head-to-head with Thunder star Russell Westbrook, who also had 28. It further cemented Butler’s status as one of the NBA’s top players — a development that continues to surprise even himself and, he believes, the Bulls’ front office of Gar Forman and John Paxson.
"You couldn’t say I would pan out this way (and) I couldn’t say that either," Butler said. "I just work hard. The crazy part is I think I can still surprise them even more because I continue to work, continue to be myself, do what’s asked of me (and) do what I can to the best of my ability.
"Yeah, they were shocked, surprised, excited for me and the future. But nobody could see this coming."
