Pitcher Shelby Turnier, who had a sparkling run in the NPF playoffs, has re-signed with the Chicago Bandits for the 2017 season, team officials announced Thursday.

“Shelby Turnier had an excellent rookie season for our team,” general manager Toni Calmeyn said. “We’re excited to bring her back.”

Turnier, a Central Florida graduate, collected a 6-4 record in 21 appearances (seven starts). She had a team-best 3.22 ERA and held batters to a .220 average.

During the 2016 Cowles Cup championship run, Turnier made four relief appearances against the Scrap Yard Dawgs and USSSA Pride, picking up one win and two saves. She did not allow a run.

With the retirements of Michelle Gascoigne, Sara Moulton and Tatum Edwards, the Bandits staff now features Lacey Waldrop, Haylie Wagner and Turnier.
