All eyes on the postseason now. Can Sierra Canyon finally win the Open? Can Alemany or Oak Park win its first Open Division playoff game? Can Birmingham bring home the LA City Section’s Open Division title? Harvard-Westlake is the No. 1 seed in Division 1A but can they win a section title after winning state last year? So many questions and on Wednesday, we start to get answers from our area teams.

GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 10
What a wild and woolly week. Sierra Canyon loses at Windward in a game that came down to the final shot and Harvard-Westlake rebounded from a surprising loss to Chaminade with a wow victory over Alemany. Overall, Sierra Canyon, Alemany, Harvard-Westlake and Chaminade are all Open Division teams in the CIF Southern Section. Antelope Valley wrapped up another Golden League title and has won 22 consecutive games. Canyon and Valencia shared the Foothill League title and Valencia’s Kayla Konrad wrapped up the regular season with a Foothill League record 39 points against Hart. Granada Hills and El Camino Real are preparing for their own Open Division bids in the L.A. City Section. Oaks Christian has an interesting first-round game against Santa Barbara on Thursday.

Playoffs begin this week and here is where we are. Granada Hills wraps its season up with Chatsworth Tuesday and likely earns that No. 1 seed in the LA City Section Division 1 playoffs. Burroughs’ tie with Crescenta Valley helped it win the Pacific League title but CV stays ahead due to two head-to-head wins. El Camino Real’s win over Birmingham helped ECR more than hurt it. Birmingham and Notre Dame losing its last two games doesn’t hurt its spot in our rankings. Valencia rallied to tie Hart but the Vikings stay where they are. Simi Valley won the Coastal Canyon League and in a three-way tie for second, Moorpark is in the playoffs while Royal is out after losing its season finale. Agoura won the Marmonte League and Poly claimed the East Valley League title. To sum it all up, get ready for a wild postseason where anything can happen. It all starts this weekend.

It seems as if the area’s top programs are poised for deep playoff runs. Westlake capped off an unbeaten regular season and is the No. 3 seed in the cut-throat Division 1 playoffs while Harvard-Westlake looks primed as the No. 4 seed in Division 1. Coastal Canyon League champion Moorpark is the No. 3 seed in Division 2 and has made two consecutive CIF-SS finals appearances. Hart, Chaminade and Newbury Park are certainly dangerous. Agoura played consistently enough to finish ahead of Oaks Christian in the Marmonte League. Royal stumbled in its regular-season finale against Camarillo to cap an up-and-down Coastal Canyon League campaign. El Camino Real is taking aim at the L.A. City Section title. And keep your eyes on Sierra Canyon and Grace Brethren, who are top-four seeds in their respective divisions.
