Derek Jeter, who roamed the New York Yankees infield at shortstop before retiring after 20 seasons, will have a new role now:

Fatherhood.

Jeter’s wife, Hannah, 26, announced the couple are expecting their first child — a girl — on her husband’s website, The Players Tribune, adding a photo of Jeter holding pink balloons.

In an essay, titled “The Derek I Know” which chronicles the couple’s relationship, Hannah Jeter writes:

“Big moments also have a funny way of making you look ahead.

Now, pregnant with our first child, Derek and I are looking to the future.”
