Mark Teixiera’s post-baseball career will be about, well, what else? Baseball.
The former Yankees star is heading to ESPN to join the network’s baseball coverage for the 2017 season. In a press release on Wednesday, ESPN revealed how they’ll use the 14-year big leaguer. Expect to see Teixeira, starting in spring training in a few weeks, on ESPN’s studio coverage, SportsCenter and ESPN Radio.
After watching ex-Yankee Alex Rodriguez transition (and become a star) analyst for FOX, what can we expect out of Teixeira?
Here’s why success is a good bet:
-Prepared.
Don’t expect Teixeira to walk onto the ESPN set, broadcast booth or call in to a radio show without doing his homework. If his work ethic as a player is an indication of what he’ll bring to this position, we’re going to soon listen to an analyst that has a wealth of knowledge at hand at all times.
-Sense of humor.
One of the best original productions the YES Network has done during its run with the Yankees? Foul Territory.
If you never watched Mark Teixiera playing the role of reporter/comedian, you missed out. While Tex was known as a serious competitor, he has a sense of humor that should play well–especially during his time in the booth during games as a color analyst.
-Radio experience.
Teixeira was a frequent radio guest on WFAN during his time in New York, so he knows how to approach an interview and spots on ESPN Radio. It’s likely part of the reason that ESPN targeted the recently-retired star so shortly after his exit from the game.
