After spending the last couple of months doing double duty as both the University of Texas beat writer and Spurs Nation magazine columnist for the Express-News, Mike Finger has been promoted to sports columnist. He replaces Buck Harvey, who recently retired after filling that role for more than three decades.
An award-winning sportswriter, Finger, 39, has been at the Express-News since 1999. He has covered the Longhorns since 2009, and also has experience writing about the Dallas Cowboys, the Big 12 and the Spurs, along with covering half a dozen Final Fours and many bowl games.
Finger, a D’Hanis native who was the starting first baseman on the Cowboys’ 1995 Class A state championship baseball team, will soon be relocating from Austin back to San Antonio.
