Joe Maddon wasn’t sure if the mimes were returning to the Under Armour Performance Center, but the Chicago Cubs’ manager said gimmicks like the ones used during last spring will continue.
"Magicians are OK," Maddon said Tuesday on the eve of the first workout for pitchers and catchers. "You can anticipate a lot of the same."
The Cubs provided lively entertainment last spring, from Maddon driving his 1970s van onto the conditioning field while wearing a tie-dye T-shirt to slugger Anthony Rizzo playing the keyboards to infielder Munenori Kawasaki performing karaoke.
"We already have something planned for the first day that you might not want to miss," Maddon said in regards to the Cubs’ first full squad workout scheduled for Saturday.
