Oklahoma State football coach Mike Gundy’s appreciation for wrestling is well known.
Gundy wrestled in high school when he was at Midwest City (Okla.) High School and has always claimed that the sport helped instill a competitive spirit that has helped him throughout his eventual career.
He’s coaching now at Oklahoma State, which is one of the nation’s most storied wrestling programs as well as a developing football program that Gundy led to a Valero Alamo Bowl championship over Colorado last December.
Gundy took to Twitter to implore Cowboy fans to turn out for Sunday’s meet in Stillwater against No. 2 Penn State, which attracted a record crowd of 14,059 – largest ever to watch an OSU athletic activity in the storied facility.
The OSU fans lived up to a plea from Gundy, who implored them to pack the facility to make history.
“We need a butt in every seat to make Gallagher the rowdiest arena in the country,” Gundy urges in his best wrestling, carnival-barker manner.
Making it even better, Gundy was wearing a wrestling singlet and his famous mullet while he is filmed.

No. 2 Penn State won the match, 27-13, knocking the top-ranked Cowboys from their perch as the nation’s top-ranked wrestling team.
The result prompted Penn State football coach James Franklin and his staff to one-up Gundy after the meet.
Franklin tweeted out a picture of him and his staff, all clad in wrestling singlets in his meeting room.
Congrats @pennstateWrest & @caelsanderson- big win at Oklahoma St! Compete in everything you do! #NotAGoodLookOnUs pic.twitter.com/eXMoUmkE5K
It’s great to see these coaches support other sports on their respective campuses.
And considering the fiery dispositions of Gundy and Franklin, could we beg — please — for a cage match between the two fiery football coaches?
