Illinois made a late addition to its 2017 recruiting class Friday with the signing of defensive end Isaiah Gay from Nashville, N.C.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Gay is the seventh defensive lineman in coach Lovie Smith’s first class, which now numbers 25 players. He recorded 117 tackles, 25 tackles for a loss, 17 sacks and three forced fumbles as a senior at Northern Nash High School, according to Scout.com.

Gay committed to FCS program Elon on Jan. 2, according to 247Sports.com, but never signed a letter of intent. His only other reported offer was from East Carolina.

The talk heading into 2017 will be more about Alabama, Clemson and Florida State than the best of the Midwest, but here’s a look at where the Big Ten teams stack up.
