Comments: This is getting to be a very crowded weight class, especially with Joyce’s drop from 152 (where he was No. 5) and Ortman’s return from injury. Joyce should be in the top 5 but not ahead of Meyer (head-to-head win). Ortman probably should be in the top 5, too. Hay was No. 5 last week but a loss to Frinzi in the D-11 3A quarterfinal knocks him out in such a competitive spot. Frinzi can’t go top 5, either, as he lost to Britton 7-5 in a good bout in the D-11 3A “true second” match, and Britton can’t get in the top 5 yet though he’s very close, Cases could be made for Corpora or Zigich. In the end, Ortman’s fifth-place at the PowerAde is the most impressive accomplishment any of the contenders for No. 4/5 have, and he gets fourth with Haubert fifth. Greene won his 100th match this week. Cutri-French had another eight-second (now has 3 under-10-second falls in 2 weeks). With this kind of depth, the top 5 have to keep winning  — and winning impressively — or else.
