Johnny Manizel is hoping to replicate former Texas A&M teammate Mike Evans’ success.
The former Browns quarterback turned epic NFL washout penned a lengthy ode to the star Bucs wide receiver over the weekend.
“From those days to living together and training together before the draft only for both of us to get drafted in the first round and have both our dreams come true. I was more happy on draft night for you to go where you did than I ever could have been for myself,” Manziel wrote on Instagram. “Came from nothing to something is an understatement.”
Evans was selected No. 7 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft by the Buccaneers. He made the Pro Bowl in 2016, finishing his third season with 96 receptions for 1,322 yards and 12 touchdowns.
“Not many guys make it off the island to being a dominant force in the NFL. I’ll never forget these times my g we did this s–t together and I’m just trying to get on your level now,” Manziel continued.

Manziel is just hoping to get his once-promising career restarted. The 24-year-old said he is sober after a disturbing downward spiral in 2016, and has returned to a training regimen, seemingly enlisting his former quarterback coach, George Whitfield Jr.
“Relentless consistency @georgewhitfieldjr,” Manziel posted Sunday on Instagram, photographed with a football in hand as Whitfield looked on.
Manziel is giving his fans an inkling of a reason to believe again, including Hall of Fame quarterback Warren Moon.
“I think Johnny has proven he can play in the National Football League, but Johnny has to get Johnny Manziel together first before he can even think about football,” Moon told TMZ.
In December, Manziel finalized a plea deal stemming from an alleged domestic violence incident last January, in which he allegedly struck ex-girlfriend Colleen Crowley.
“If he’s gotten his personal life together and all the problems he has off the field, if all that’s taken care of, there’s no reason he can’t come back into an NFL camp,” Moon said.
