J.R. Smith hasn’t played since Dec. 20 following thumb surgery, but he didn’t need all 10 fingers to cradle his baby girl.
The Cavs shooting guard shared his first photo of his newborn, who was born five months early, showing that baby Dakota is growing and now able to be held. It appears she is still in the NICU, but she’s in good hands.
“Today is one of the greatest days of my life,” wrote Smith, 31. “Today I get to hold my youngest for the first time! GOD is GREAT!”
Smith and his wife, Jewel Harris, together announced Dakota’s birth in early January in a somber video. Their third daughter was just 1 pound at birth.
“We know we’re not the only family going through this,” Jewel said in the video. “That’s why we decided to share what we’re going through with you guys. Please keep us in your prayers and we’ll do the same for everyone else.”
Smith, the former Knick, is expected to return to game action in April. But he seems to have his hands filled in the meantime.
