The 2016 NFL season officially concluded on Sunday with the New England Patriots’ 34-28 win over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, but the preparations for the 2017 season were already well underway for most teams, including the Seahawks.
The NFL offseason generates just as much interest — if not more — than the games themselves, with the league’s scouting combine and college draft transitioning from back-room dealings shrouded in mystery into televised spectacles that earn big ratings. The annual free-agency frenzy has the potential to reshape the landscape of the league, with often mixed results for teams adding players they hope can help put them over the top.
Unlike last year, when Seattle entered the offseason with limited salary cap space and a handful of starters becoming unrestricted free agents, GM John Schneider and head coach Pete Carroll should be able to keep intact the core of a team that won its third NFC West title in four years in 2016.
