Rich Gilooly, a teacher at Catholic Central who played basketball for the Crusaders and coached in the high school and collegiate ranks, died Tuesday evening at his home.
Gilooly, a 1996 CCHS graduate, starred for the Crusaders and then played college basketball at Union. He served as an assistant coach at both RPI and Hudson Valley Community College.
During his time in Section II, Gilooly coached at Schalmont for two years, led CCHS for the 2003-04 season and most recently served as the head coach at Bishop Maginn beginning with the 2011-12 season. Gilooly also served as Dean of Students and the Social Studies Chairperson at Bishop Maginn before returning to Catholic Central.
CCHS principal Christopher Bott said the following regarding Gilooly’s passing on the school’s website: “Mr. Gilooly will be especially remembered for his caring way and his incredible sense of humor as he was loved and respected by all of us at CCHS.”
