Buckle up, Knicks fans.

As the countdown to the Feb. 23 NBA trade deadline commences, Carmelo Anthony trade rumors will dominate basketball conversation.

The latest piece of news from the basketball world: The Knicks and Cleveland Cavaliers are back in touch regarding a deal that would send Casinomaxi Anthony to Cleveland to pair with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving–but Cleveland still isn’t budging on New York’s asking price of Kevin Love.

Here’s ESPN’s report:

The New York Knicks continue to pursue Kevin Love in advance of the Feb. 23 trade deadline despite the Cleveland Cavaliers’ unwillingness to part with the All-Star forward in a deal for Carmelo Anthony, according to league sources.

Sources said the Cavaliers, meanwhile, do maintain an interest in Anthony — which would pair him with Cleveland star and close friend LeBron James — but only if a deal can be struck without the league’s reigning champions surrendering Love.

ESPN first reported last week that the Cavaliers had rebuffed the Knicks’ attempts to swing an Anthony-for-Love swap.

The latest rendition of this rumor pits the Knicks as the aggressor for Love, using Anthony as the bait. That’s a pivot from the notion that James, Anthony’s friend, is pushing for the team to add more fire power to make another push for a run to the NBA Finals.

Melo thinking about Cavs?

Cleveland is 32-15 heading into play on Feb. 1, and holds a 2.5-game lead for the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
