While all of the attention focuses on the Eagles’ expected interest in Washington Redskins receiver DeSean Jackson, one report suggests they might go another way this offseason.
According to Mike Jones of the Washington Post, the Eagles are expected to show interest in soon-to-be free agent Pierre Garcon, the receiver that plays opposite Jackson on the Redskins.
Jones writes:
The team likes Pierre Garcon, and Garcon says he wants to be here. But as many as five other teams (Rams, Eagles, Bears, Cowboys, 49ers) are expected to want this reliable veteran to serve as a security blanket for their young quarterbacks.
Garcon finished last season with 79 catches for 1,041 yards and three touchdowns.
During his nine-year career in the NFL, Garcon has 564 catches for 7,068 yards 37 touchdowns. He has surpassed 1,000 yards just twice in nine seasons.
What other receivers could Eagles sign?
The Eagles expected interest in Garcon is not shocking, as they have been very vocal about their desire to add playmakers to the roster this offseason.
At 31-years old, Garcon is not a player the Eagles can build with for years to come, which might cause them to look the other way. But while top personnel executive Howie Roseman has said the team wants to sign young players to build around quarterback Carson Wentz, he also mentioned there might be a need for a stop gap at certain positions.

So while Garcon is not a 25-year old player entering his prime, he is a veteran that the Eagles could count on next season — something they desperately lacked last season outside of Jordan Matthews.
Considering the Eagles will likely be adding multiple receivers through the draft, and potentially moving on from Nelson Agholor and Dorial Green-Beckham, having the dependable Garcon on the roster could be a major help to quarterback Carson Wentz.
It is also possible that, considering his age, Garcon might not break the bank — which is key for the Eagles as they currently have only $15.2 million in salary cap space.
