CORVALLIS — Sunday’s meeting between No. 9 Oregon State and No. 15 UCLA was already pegged as a big matchup, after the Bruins handed the Beavers their first Pac-12 loss about a month ago.

But now the contest has stakes for a different reason, as OSU and UCLA will both be aiming to rebound after getting upset by unranked opponents Friday night.

USC blew out OSU 70-50, snapping the Beavers’ seven-game winning streak and dropping them into a three-way tie for first place atop the Pac-12 with No. 8 Stanford and No. 10 Washington. UCLA, meanwhile, fell 84-75 at Oregon, taking some shine off Monday’s huge win at Stanford.

OSU has not lost back-to-back games since getting swept at USC and UCLA in January of 2014. And the Beavers are likely to face another round of full-court press defense from the athletic Bruins, a strategy that worked brilliantly for USC in forcing 20 turnovers that the Trojans turned into 28 points. UCLA’s offense ranks second in the Pac-12 in scoring (75.4 points per game), while OSU’s defense leads the Pac-12 in points allowed (54.9) and ninth nationally in opponent field-goal percentage (34.4).

This contest also matches two of the country’s best point guards. Sydney Wiese is two assists away from becoming OSU’s all-time leader, averages 15.3 points, five rebounds and 4.5 assists per game and ranks fifth nationally in three-point field-goal percentage at . UCLA’s Jordin Canada, meanwhile, ranks ninth nationally with 7.1 assists per game and third in the Pac-12 in scoring at 18.4 points per game.
