Notre Dame 32, Bangor 27 – Rapid Recap
The Notre Dame High School girls basketball team’s defense continued to confound Bangor on Tuesday night, even when its offense struggled to find a rhythm.
The second-seeded Crusaders stifled the third-seeded Slaters en route to a 32-27 victory in the Colonial League semifinals at Catasauqua High School.
Turning point: The Slaters trailed throughout the second half until finally grinding their way back to a 26-26 tie on a 1-and-1 conversion by Brieann Ohland with 5:07 left in the fourth quarter.
Notre Dame quickly responded with a pair of free throws from Kelsey Gorman to retake the lead.
The Crusaders then weathered an extensive Bangor possession, which included an offensive rebound after two missed free throws, a jump ball that stayed with Bangor, and then finally a miss and defensive rebound.
Top performers: Cassie Kelly had a team-high eight points, including a pair of game-clinching free throws with 12.2 seconds left, for Notre Dame.
Marissa Fernandez-Tierney, who battled foul trouble, had a game-high 11 points for Bangor (19-5).
What it means: Notre Dame (19-4) advances to meet the Northwestern-Southern Lehigh winner in the Colonial League final 6 p.m. Friday at a site to be determined.
