Oregon is hiring Oklahoma State assistant Marcus Arroyo to coach quarterbacks and serve as the passing game coordinator, according to a Fox Sports report Thursday.

The reported hiring would fill one of the two positions open on coach Willie Taggart’s staff. The Ducks lost a pair of assistants in the past week with the Friday resignation of co-offensive coordinator David Reaves, who also was set to coach tight ends, and the departure of receivers coach Jimmie Dougherty, who is taking the same position at UCLA.

On national signing day Feb. 1, Taggart said a position coach would lead quarterbacks but also said he expected to be heavily involved with quarterbacks, too, given his background as a college QB at Western Kentucky.

Arroyo, who coached running backs at Oklahoma State, came to college from the NFL, where he’d served as quarterbacks coach with Tampa Bay before adding interim offensive coordinator duties in 2014, as well.

Arroyo has previously been an offensive coordinator and receivers coach at Southern Mississippi and the passing game coordinator and playcaller at Cal from 2011-12. The hiring at Oregon brings Arroyo back to the West Coast: A native of Colfax, Calif., Arroyo quarterbacked San Jose State from 1998-2002. According to his Oklahoma State biography, his wife, Kelly, also swam at Southern Oregon.

Currently, position groups without a coach are receiver and tight end.
