Oregon State junior lefty Luke Heimlich set a new career-high for strikeouts Friday and has been honored with the first Pac-12 pitcher of the week award this season.

Heimlich had 11 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings during the Beavers’ season opening 1-0 win over Indiana. He allowed four hits and two walks in the victory.

The Puyallup, Washington native broke the previous strikeout mark he set in his last outing, when he had eight in a complete shutout win during the season finale against UCLA.

The Beavers started 4-0 in Surprise, Arizona with two wins apiece over Indiana and Duke. The pitching staff allowed three earned runs, a .177 batting average, 11 walks and struck out 37 hitters.

Oregon State plays Thursday against Nebraska to start another four-game slate in Surprise. First pitch is at noon Pacific Time.
