Signing Day was less than two weeks ago, but Oregon State is already about to start spring practice. The Beavers’ first workout is Friday, with the spring game taking place March 18 at Reser Stadium.
“It is very different,” coach Gary Andersen acknowledged during his Signing Day press conference. “I think our kids have handled the difference very, very well, which is great to see. We always want to throw some curveballs at them, and this year, this curveball is definitely best for this team.”
The timing of spring practice means players went through a six-week winter conditioning program after returning from the holiday break. Then last week, the Beavers held “organized walk-throughs” with coaches back from the recruiting trail to prepare for what Andersen anticipates as a “physical” round of practices.
“You better strap it on every day, or it’s probably not gonna be a good day for you,” Andersen said.
Players will dive back into the weight room after the spring game, allowing coaches to focus on the crucial spring recruiting evaluation period in April.
