Rams coach Sean McVay is nearing the end of his search for assistant coaches, and McVay didn’t have to look far to fill one spot.

UCLA receivers coach Eric Yarber is expected to join the Rams, but the hiring is not yet official. The Rams also are expected to add Aubrey Pleasant, who most recently worked alongside McVay as Washington’s assistant secondary coach.

Yarber, 53, is a Chicago native who played at Los Angeles Valley College in 1982-83 before he transferred to Idaho, then played two years in the NFL as a receiver for Washington.

Yarber previously worked as an NFL receivers coach in San Francisco (2003-04) and Tampa Bay (2010-11), and had extensive Pac-12 Conference experience with Washington, Arizona State and UCLA, where he joined Coach Jim Mora’s staff in 2012.

Pleasant, who played safety at Wisconsin (2005-08), spent two years as a college assistant at Michigan, then joined the Washington staff in 2013. He worked with McVay, who was Washington’s offensive coordinator, and Joe Barry, who has agreed to become the Rams’ linebackers coach.

The Rams already have announced the hiring of defensive coordinator Wade Phillips and are expected to add Greg Olson (quarterbacks), Aaron Kromer (offensive live) and Bill Johnson (defensive line). Running backs coach Skip Peete and special-teams coach John Fassel are expected to be retained by McVay.

McVay has yet to hire an offensive coordinator. That move is expected shortly, although the job’s important is de-emphasized a bit because McVay said he intends to be the Rams’ playcaller.
