On the day when the Rams finalized new Coach Sean McVay’s staff of assistants, the team also informed its season-ticket holders that prices will not increase next season.
A letter sent to ticket holders noted the cost freeze and added that those who renewed their tickets for 2017 would be “in the first group of fans who have the opportunity to choose seats” at the Rams’ under-construction Inglewood stadium, which is set to open in 2019.
In 2016, Rams season-ticket packages ranged from $360 to $2,025, and the Rams sold out their allotment of 70,000 season tickets. The Rams, after last year’s 4-12 season, once again will have only seven home games in 2017, one fewer than normal, because of a game in England against Arizona.
Season-ticket holders will watch a Rams team with almost entirely new leadership, as McVay’s staff is now complete. The final piece of the puzzle was offensive coordinator Matt LaFleur, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterbacks coach who, at the relatively young age of 37, is six years older than his new boss.
“We have a great group of talented coaches that I’m very excited to work with this year,” McVay said in a statement released by the Rams. “They have a vast array of experiences and the qualities we are looking for as we build this staff. Their unique insight to the game will collectively make this team better as we prepare for the 2017 season.”
There were no surprises Wednesday, as almost all of the (expected) hires had been reported since the Rams tabbed McVay as their new coach on Jan. 12. The big hire, veteran defensive coordinator Wade Phillips, had been confirmed last month.
Phillips will head up a defensive staff that includes Bill Johnson (defensive line) Joe Barry (assistant head coach/linebackers), Aubrey Pleasant (cornerbacks), Ejiro Evero (safeties), Chris Shula (linebackers assistant) and Thad Bogardus (defensive quality control).
The only holdovers from the staff of former coach Jeff Fisher are special teams coach John Fassel, who took over as interim coach after Fisher was fired in December, running backs coach Skip Peete and offensive line assistant Andy Dickerson.
McVay previously announced that he will call plays, and his offensive staff is completed by Greg Olson (quarterbacks), Eric Yarber (receivers), Shane Waldron (tight ends), Aaron Kromer (offensive line), Zac Taylor (receivers assistant) and Zak Kromer (offensive quality control). Ted Rath takes over as the Rams’ strength and conditioning coach.
As a team with a new head coach, the Rams will be allowed to start their offseason program in early April, earlier than most other teams.
