San Fernando Boxing Club is hosting an amateur card March 4 at the Lincoln Community Center, 2915 E. Commerce.
It’s the first show since the city-sponsored boxing program moved out of the downtown San Fernando Gym.
Twenty-five bouts are scheduled. First bell is 2 p.m. Admission is $8, free for children 6 and under.
‘Gloves’ tournament: About 50 boxers have registered so far for the inaugural San Antonio Gloves amateur boxing tournament, South Texas Amateur Boxing Association president Mark Calo-oy said.
The San Antonio Gloves show, set for Feb. 23-25 at Woodlawn Gym, was organized by STABA to fill the void when the San Antonio Regional Golden Gloves tournament decided to take a one-year hiatus in 2017.
The three-day event, a non-advancing tournament, is open to male and female boxers ages 17-40 in both the senior novice (0-9 bouts) and senior open (10-plus bouts) divisions.
Most of the entrants so far, Calo-oy said, are novice boxers. He said he hopes to have 50 more boxers sign up before the Friday deadline.
First bell the first two days is 6:30 p.m., 7 p.m. the final night.
Admission is $9 per day and $4 for children under 10. A wristband for all three sessions is $19.
Trophies and jackets will be presented to the winners.
