Isabelle Charest will lead Team Canada to the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games as chef de mission.
The short track speed skater from Rimouski, Que. competed at three Olympics — Lillehammer in 1994, Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002 Salt Lake City — winning a medal each time as part of the 3000-metre relay.
She’s currently a communications coordinator at the Commission scolaire du Val-des-Cerfs, a Quebec school board.
The chef de mission, a volunteer position, is a spokesperson for the team, mentors athletes, coaches and staff and works to create an atmosphere where athletes can deliver their best at the Games.
The Canadian Olympic Committee announced Charest’s role on Monday morning. On Jan., 24, Todd Nicholson, a five-time Paralympian in para ice hockey was named chef de mission for Team Canada at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.
A team captain for 15 years from 1989 to 2010, Nicholson won three Paralympic medals, gold, silver and bronze, in his career. He currently works for the Canada Border Services Agency.
