Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian will become the next offensive coordinator of the Atlanta Falcons replacing Kyle Shanahan, which could lead to former Eagles head coach landing his next job.

Kelly, fired by the San Francisco 49ers last month, could become a top candidate to run Nick Saban’s offense with the Alabama Crimson tide if Sarkisian in fact bolts for the Atlanta Falcons offensive coordinator job.

Saban confirmed last year that Kelly met with himself and various members of the coaching staff and the pair seem to share a mutual professional admiration for one another.

After posting a 28-35 record in three-plus seasons with the Eagles and San Francisco 49ers it is evident that Kelly’s offensive philosophies are best suited for the college game.

What Eagles must do to return to Playoffs

In Kelly’s first season the Eagles took the NFL by storm, posting a 10-6 record, won the NFC East and finished with the NFL’s No. 2 rated offense. However, Kelly’s teams finished No. 5, No. 12 and No. 31 respectively over his final three seasons.

It seemed that NFL defensive coordinators and coaching staffs had adapted to defend Kelly’s system but he did not keep up with the innovative approach that made his first season with the Eagles so successful.

After failing to land a head coaching position and being twice passed over by the Jacksonville Jaguars during this year’s NFL coaching hiring cycle, Kelly could find a high profile position on Saban’s staff a much needed rehabilitation of his coaching reputation.
