Tyler Austin’s chances of making the Yankees roster out of spring training just evaporated.

Austin had an outside chance of landing a bench role, but the 25-year-old broke a bone in his foot after fouling a ball off it during batting practice earlier this week. Austin will be in a boot for three weeks and will not be allowed to do baseball activities for six weeks.

Austin hit .241 with five homers and 12 RBIs in 31 games after he was called up to the big-league club in August.

Austin had a chance to be Greg Bird’s backup at first base, but that was before the Yankees signed veteran slugger Chris Carter earlier this month.
