CF Montreal could find a well-known opponent shortly, since Toronto FC reached the semi-finals of the Canadian Championship on Tuesday in Halifax, defeating the Wanderers 2-1.

The “TFC” will however have to wait for the result of the match between the Football Club and the Hamilton Forge, Wednesday at Saputo Stadium, before knowing the exact identity of its next opponent.

The Ontario team had some difficulties in the first half of its match of the day, so much so that it brought in some of its big guns when they returned to the field, namely Jesus Jimenez, Jonathan Osorio and Ayo Akinola.

However, it was none of the three who opened the scoring, but rather Jordan Perruzza, in the 55th minute. The 21-year-old took advantage of a corner kick to redirect a header throw.

It was ultimately an own goal that delivered the formation of Major League Soccer (MLS). In the 86th minute, 19 after seeing the crowd favorites equalize, Jonathan Osorio grabbed the ball inside the penalty area and his powerful shot hit the crossbar, before bouncing off an opposing defender , then into the back of the Wanderers net.

A duel between Toronto FC and CF Montreal would represent a final of the 2021 edition, when Wilfried Nancy’s men triumphed 1-0.

-The Vancouver Whitecaps, the other Canadian club in the MLS, are in the other portion of the table.
