The number of competitions presented in the Commercial Courts during the second quarter of this year experienced an interannual increase of 107.1% to a total of 12,006, according to data collected by the Statistics Service of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). ) in the report on the effects of the crisis on judicial bodies.

The highest number was registered in Catalonia, where the 4,074 registered contests represent 33.9% of the national total. Andalusia followed, with 1,475 contests; Valencian Community, with 1,450; and Madrid, with 1,416.

By type of contest, the report published this Friday indicates that those that showed the greatest increase – 217% – were those presented by natural persons, non-businessmen, who added up to a total of 9,279 contests.

Regarding the contests of legal entities, 1,528 were presented, 1.2% more than in the same quarter of 2022. Catalonia was the Autonomous Community where the most contests of this type were registered, with 496, which represents 32.5 % of the national total. They were followed by Madrid, with 260; Valencian Community, with 178; and Andalusia, with 131.

The competitions presented by natural persons businessmen, 1,199, were the only ones that showed a downward trend, decreasing by 11.9% compared to the same quarter of 2022. Catalonia was the territory with the most competitions of this type, with 703, which which represents 58.6% of the national total. They were followed by Madrid, with 102; Andalusia, with 86; and the Valencian Community, with 72.

The competitions presented by natural persons, non-businessmen, amounted to 9,279, which represented an increase of 217% compared to the previous year. The list is headed by Catalonia with 2,875 contests submitted, which represents 31% of the national total. They were followed by Andalusia, with 1,258; the Valencian Community, with 1,200; and Madrid, with 1,054.

The number of bankruptcies declared in the second quarter of 2023 in the Commercial Courts rose to a total of 9,000, which is equivalent to an increase of 496.8% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the same quarter, a total of 48 contests reached the agreement phase, 63.9% less than a year before, while those that began the liquidation phase, 1,292, almost doubled the figure registered in the second quarter of 2022. by increasing 43.7%.

Regarding the files of the article relating to the substantial modification of collective working conditions (ERE), 93 files were presented, 5.1 less than in the same period of the previous year.

In the second quarter of 2023, 34,014 claims for dismissal were filed, 18.3% more than in the same quarter of 2022. Catalonia, with 7,160 – 21.1% of the national total – was the Autonomous Community in which that more lawsuits of this type were filed. They were followed by Andalusia, with 5,336; Madrid, with 5,230; and the Valencian Community, with 4,517.

The number of lawsuits for claims for amounts registered in the Labor Courts also experienced a significant year-on-year increase, standing at 16.6%, with a total of 35,469 being recorded. Of them, 7,875 were presented in Madrid, which represented 22.2% of the national total; 5,501 in Andalusia and 4,381 in Catalonia.
