The number of new commercial companies shot up 14.5% last June compared to the same month in 2022, reaching a total of 10,206 companies, according to data released this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

With the rebound in June, the creation of companies chains six consecutive months of promotions, although that of January (15.6%) has been the highest of those registered up to the sixth month of the year.

For the constitution of the 10,206 companies created last June, just over 369 million euros were subscribed, which is 1.4% more than in the same month of 2022, while the average capital subscribed, which stood at 36,194 euros, decreased by 11.4% year-on-year.

While the creation of companies increased, the dissolution of companies decreased in June, by 2.6% compared to the same month in 2022, to a total of 1,657, at the same time that in the first six months of the year something has been created more than 61,000 companies.

Of the 1,657 companies that closed last June, 83.2% did so voluntarily, 6.3% due to a merger with other companies and the remaining 10.5% for other reasons.

19.3% of the mercantile companies that were created in the sixth month of the year were dedicated to commerce and 17.8% to real estate, financial and insurance activities.

Regarding the dissolved companies by main economic activity, the highest percentages are also found in commerce (19.6%) and construction (16.8%).

For its part, the number of commercial companies that increased capital fell by 2% in June, to 2,383 companies. The capital subscribed in these increases reached 1,252 million euros, a figure 28.8% lower than that of June 2022, while the average capital was 525,636 euros, 27.4% less.

MADRID AND CATALONIA LEAD THE CREATION OF COMPANIES

The communities that created the greatest number of companies last June were Madrid (2,389 companies), Catalonia (1,956) and Andalusia, where 1,883 companies were created. The regions that incorporated the fewest companies in the sixth month of the year were La Rioja (36), Navarra (75) and Cantabria (77).

Thirteen regions created more companies in June than in the same month of 2022, especially Extremadura (48.8%), Navarra (31.7%) and the Valencian Community (24%).

Among the decreases, the most pronounced were recorded by Castilla y León (-22.4%) and País Vasco (-12.9%).

Considering the dissolved commercial companies, the communities with the highest number of dissolutions in June 2023 were Madrid (557), Andalusia (260) and Catalonia (128). On the contrary, the autonomous communities with the fewest dissolved mercantile companies were Navarra (3), La Rioja (12) and Cantabria (16).

Six communities increased their number of business dissolutions last June in the interannual rate, mainly Murcia (37.5%) and Castilla-La Mancha (28.6%), and ten reduced them, especially Navarra (-50%) , Basque Country (-30%) and La Rioja (-29.4%).

In monthly terms (June over May), the formation of new companies decreased by 1.9%, while the dissolutions fell by 2.6%.
