It asks the Government to leave after the elections to “continue with the same pace of reforms” of these years and “prop up” those already carried out
SANTANDER, July 21. (EUROPEAN PRESS) –
The general director of the Public State Employment Service (SEPE), Gerardo Gutiérrez Ardoy, has assured that in the last 18 months there has been a “radical transformation” of the labor market as a result of the approval of the labor reform by the Government.
“The news is good for this country”, said Gutiérrez Ardoy, anticipating that this is going to be “a very good summer for hiring and also for employment data”, since he has indicated that the call for elections “has not slowed down” the positive trend in the labor market.
The general director of SEPE has thus spoken to questions from journalists at the Menéndez Pelayo International University (UIMP) in Santander, where he has been one of the protagonists of the meeting called ‘Active Employment Policies: A new regulatory framework for new challenges. European Year of Competences 2023’, organized within the framework of its Summer Courses.
Gutiérrez Ardoy has highlighted that the country’s positive forecasts have even been endorsed at the European level, since Brussels has revised upwards a few weeks ago the GDP growth forecasts for Spain because the European funds are being executed “well” and because of how the labor market is responding.
In this sense, he stressed that “we are in a country where three out of four contracts are permanent”. “Indefinite contracts have been the gateway for young people and women to the labor market and that 50% of indefinite contracts that we are having every month is very important.”
For this reason, the director general of SEPE has asked the government to leave after the general elections this Sunday to “continue with the same pace of reforms of these years and underpin the structural reforms that we have been making.”
“We still have a way to continue evolving and continue executing the European funds that are giving such good results. This country is full of opportunities,” he declared.
As Gutiérrez Ardoy explained, the course in which he participated in the UIMP addressed the novelties that the approval of the Employment Law last March brought about, of which he highlighted the “added value that comes with recognizing authentic subjective rights, guaranteed services in favor of people and companies, especially SMEs, which are the ones that generate employment in this country”.
In this line, he has also highlighted what the norm has meant at the local level, betting on the “maximum” collaboration with local administrations that “without being their competence, apply active employment policies with a scalpel tailored to their territories”.
Another of the issues that has been highlighted has been the need to respond to training needs and the profiles demanded by the labor market.
In this sense, the person in charge of SEPE explained that those who receive training related to renewable energies, photovoltaics and everything related to data processing are the technical profiles demanded by companies, and that “in many cases we do not find them in the training plans”.
And although he has pointed out that “we are being able to respond on a day-to-day basis”, he has opted to “respond immediately to those training needs of companies with specific technological instruments”, as well as to move more towards “training throughout the entire working life”.
