The federal government will invest $10.3 million to help make public places and workplaces accessible to people with disabilities.
The sum will finance 159 projects across the province, the conversion of which required less than $100,000. The targeted projects include schools, churches, community centers and parks.
“It’s very exciting, it encourages the culture of accessibility in Canada,” said Carla Qualtrug, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities.
The minister was in Montreal on Friday morning, at the Rosemont Children’s Oasis, to make the announcement. The organization will receive funding through the program to make its website accessible to people with disabilities.
“Everyone thinks of ramps, but accessibility includes more than that. It’s not just infrastructure,” said Ms. Qualtroug.
