Spain exports 354,729.6 million euros until November, 0.7% less

Spain registered a total of 87,979 exporters of more than 1,000 euros between the months of January and November 2023, a figure that represents 8.1% less than in the same period of the previous year, according to the latest foreign trade data published by the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business.

According to the Commerce report, Spain exported a total of 354,740.7 million euros in the first eleven months of the year, 0.7% compared to 2022. The 87,979 exporters of more than 1,000 euros exported for an amount of 354,729 .6 million euros, that is, practically all exported between January and November.

Around half of the exporters of goods, some 42,040, exported amounts exceeding 50,000 or more euros in the accumulated amount of the year, 0.9% more than in the same period of 2022. In total, these exporters sold for value of 354,198.6 million euros, 99.85% of total exports and 0.7% less than in the same period of the previous year.

In reference to regular exporters of more than 1,000 euros, –that is, those who have exported more than 1,000 euros in the reference year and in each of the three immediately preceding ones–, in the period January-November 2023 43,656 exporters were counted.

Regular exporters account for 33.1% of the total, growing 1.7% more than in the same period of the previous year. In total, they exported a value of 330,702.2 million euros, 93.2% of the total and 2.9% more than in the same period of the previous year.

Trade figures reflect stagnation in Spanish exports. Despite this, the Spanish trade deficit continues its downward path and fell in November to 37,158.3 million euros, which represents a reduction of 41.6% compared to the same period of the previous year.

This is because the slight drop in exports contrasted with the year-on-year decrease in imports of 6.8%, to 391,899 million euros.

Exports to the EU in January-November 2023 (62.7% of the total) fell 0.7% compared to the same period of the previous year. In the case of sales to the euro zone (54.6% of the total), they decreased by 1.9%, while those destined for the rest of the European Union (8.1% of the total) grew by 8.4 %.

By country, the year-on-year increase in exports to Germany (8.2%), Italy (5.8%) and France (0.8%) stands out. The opposite happens with Belgium and the Netherlands, which show a drop of 34.4% and 19.5%, respectively. In the rest of Europe, sales to Turkey increased by 33.6% and sales to the United Kingdom increased by 6.2%.

For its part, exports to third destinations decreased by 0.6% year-on-year in this period, and represent 37.3% of the total, highlighting the decrease in exports to the Middle East (-9.9%), Asia excluding the East Middle (-7.2%), Africa (-5.8%) and North America (-1.7%), compared to the growth of Latin America (11.2%) and Oceania (8.7%) .

By country, outside Europe, the increases in Panama (468.8%), Indonesia (15.1%), Mexico (9.9%), Australia (9%), Morocco (3.8%) and Vietnam (2%), and negatively Algeria (-72.5%), South Korea (-20.2%), Japan (-14.1%), Canada (-11.4%), Singapore (-9 .9%), United Arab Emirates (-9.4%), Peru (-9.3%) and China (-7.1%) and the United States (-1%).
