The surplus of the services sector shot up 63.7% in the third quarter in relation to the same period in 2021, reaching 8,777.4 million euros, after increasing its exports by more than 30%, according to the International Trade Survey. of Services published this Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
Specifically, exports increased by 30.3% year-on-year in the third quarter, to 24,172 million euros, while imports grew by 16.7% year-on-year, reaching 15,394.6 million.
The services that contributed the most to the rebound in exports in the third quarter were transportation (47%); telecommunications, computing and information (31.1%) and business services (22.2%).
Specifically, foreign sales of the transport sector reached 6,853.6 million, 28.4% of the total, while those carried out by telecommunications totaled 3,961.7 million euros, 16.4% of the total, and those of business services amounted to 7,626.5 million, with 31.6% of the total.
In the third quarter there were no services that contributed negatively to the annual rate of exports. The lowest contributions corresponded to construction, with exports worth 246 million (1% of the total and 19.4% more than in the third quarter of 2021); government goods and services, with 33.8 million euros in exports (0.1% of the total and 55.8% more), and financial services, whose foreign sales totaled 610.6 million euros (2. 5% of the total and 4.5% more).
CONTRIBUTION OF IMPORTS
On the other hand, the services with the greatest positive contribution to the interannual growth of imports in the third quarter were transport, with 4,333.9 million euros and an annual increase of 25.7%; business services, with imports worth 5,315 million and a growth rate of 14.3%, and insurance and pensions, with imports worth 1,391.5 million euros, 20.9% more.
In contrast, there were two services that contributed negatively to the annual rate of imports in the third quarter: construction, whose imports amounted to 31.1 million euros, with a decrease of 22.4% compared to the third quarter of 2021, and financial services, with imports worth 282.5 million and an annual decrease of 1.5%.
Regarding the geographical destination of exports of services, those directed to Europe reached 15,044.9 million euros in the third quarter, while those destined to the EU totaled 10,380.8 million. Among them, those destined for the euro zone stood at 9,605.3 million euros.
Finally, in terms of imports, those originating in Europe amounted to 10,963.1 million euros, with values for the EU and the euro zone of 8,489 and 7,690.1 million euros, respectively.
