Engaged in a wide-ranging reform since the adoption in June of the law of the new covenant to a railway, the SNCF is continuing its workforce reductions in annual, after already some 2,000 positions being eliminated in 2018 and the same number in 2017. On some 142.000 positions in total, the group wants to remove 2095 in its branch SNCF Mobilities (TGV, TER…), and 162 in the holding company at the head of the group. “to Do more with less people”

“This budget is going in reverse, from the needs of the public service territory and those of the workers,” said Lawrence Brown, general secretary of the CGT-Cheminots. Within SNCF Mobilités, “it really takes the water, the sale (of tickets) is going to suffer”, while SNCF Network “is going to go to outsourcing” because of “delays in recruitment”, according to Roger Dillenseger, secretary-general of the Unsa railway. “We’re going to do more with less people. The conditions of work and employment are in free fall. Productivity is accelerating. We are in the process of paying the consideration that the State asks us to face the recovery of the debt” (recorded in the framework of the reform, editor’s note), said Roger Dillenseger.
