CALAIS | Intractable, Wout van Aert won alone the 4th stage of the Tour de France disputed between Dunkirk and Calais, Tuesday. The Belgian has thus increased his lead in the general classification.

After three failed attempts, Wout van Aert finally won his first stage victory on this Tour.

10 km from the finish, in the Côte du Cap Blanc-Nez, the winner stepped on the accelerator and no one was able to follow him. His lead climbed to around twenty seconds but it was enough to celebrate.

Poor Jasper Philipsen, another Belgian, also raised his arms at the finish line. Not knowing that his compatriot was in front, the Alpecin-Deceuninck team cyclist thought he had won.
