A motivational speech from an Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter highlights the return of the Easton Area School District parent education series next month.
The program launched last October is designed to keep parents informed on the public school issues that matter most to them, according to Assistant Superintendent Alyssa Emili.
The session at 6 p.m. March 1 will most likely be in Easton Area Middle School in Forks Township. It’s the second session offered so far by the district.
Parents are invited to choose from among various topics for each of the first two half-hour sessions. Topics include the Leader in Me program; full-day kindergarten; transitioning to ninth grade; transitioning to sixth grade; and the PSSA, SAT and Keystone tests.
The session topics were selected based on feedback from parents, Emili said.
After that, parents are invited to a final half hour from motivational speaker Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman.
The former junior high school Spanish teacher left the classroom to follow his dreams and become a mixed-martial arts fighting champion.
“He talks about his own life and how he’s focused on his goals to get where he is today,” Emili said. “He’s been at a couple local high schools and has been very well received.”
The program is geared toward parents but anyone in the community is invited to attend. The program is free. Child care is available for the first two sessions.
