Police at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign are investigating reports this week that allege two students were sexually assaulted at fraternities, according to two campus safety alerts posted this week.

Campus police received the most recent report Thursday, which alleged a student was sexually assaulted early Tuesday at a fraternity house in Champaign by a person the student knew. Police also received a report Monday alleging a student was sexually assaulted Saturday, according to a campus safety alert posted on the police department’s website. The alleged assault occurred at a fraternity whose name and location is unknown, police said.

Upon receiving both reports, campus police notified students, faculty and staff via email alerts, and urged those on campus to heighten their awareness and assist in the prevention of similar crimes. Details of the reports were not included in the alerts to avoid identifying the victims.

U. of I. police were not immediately available for comment.

The incidents were reported within a week of similar allegations at Northwestern University, where anonymous reports say at least three students were sexually assaulted and also may have been drugged at fraternity houses in recent weeks, school officials said.

Administrators at the Evanston campus issued a safety alert to students Monday after being told that as many as four female students may have been given a date-rape drug during an event Jan. 21 at the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity house. Two of those women believe they were then sexually assaulted, according to the report, though it’s not clear how the person who reported the alleged incidents knew of them.

The anonymous allegation was made last Thursday, a day before Northwestern received a second anonymous report about a sexual assault at another fraternity house. According to the second report, the attack may have involved a date-rape drug as well.

Northwestern officials have not publicly identified the second fraternity, and it’s unclear if they know the identity of the female student involved.
