MADRID, 27 Sep. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) considers that green investments are fundamental for the development of sustainable tourism worldwide by investing in people, the planet and sustainability.
The tourism sector from around the planet meets this September 27, World Tourism Day, around the theme of tourism and green investments in what will be the largest celebration to date.
Official activities will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, although a series of special events and programs will take place in all UNWTO member states to commemorate this celebration.
UNWTO Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili says that World Tourism Day celebrates the sector’s ability to drive growth, while highlighting the vital need for investments to ensure that this growth is “inclusive and sustainable.” .
On World Tourism Day, UNWTO will put emphasis on tourism and green investments. The day will focus on the importance of investment for people (education and skills), for the planet (sustainable infrastructure and green transformation) and for prosperity (investing in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship).
In Riyadh, UNWTO will launch its Global Tourism Investment Framework and hold a series of high-level panels focused on the challenges and opportunities surrounding tourism investment.
The official World Tourism Day celebrations will also see the winners of the inaugural UNWTO Women in Technology Startup Competition for the Middle East announced.
World Tourism Day will be the biggest celebration yet. UNWTO will welcome representatives from more than 100 of its member states, including more than 50 tourism ministers from around the world. They will be joined by high-level representatives of the private tourism sector, both from the Middle East region and globally.
The first World Tourism Day was celebrated in 1980. As World Tourism Observance Day, it offers the opportunity to celebrate the sector’s role in advancing global peace and prosperity.
All member regions within the organization take turns hosting the different official celebrations over the years, always around a topic of interest to the sector.
The date of September 27 marks the day on which the statutes of the organization were signed, which became the global organization.
