8:10 p.m.: First up is the sporting group. A pointer named Portia, who hails from Australia, lives in Oldwick. Last year, C.J., a German shorthaired pointer from California, won best in show. This year, Case-E, a German shorthaired pointer from Howell, is competing.
Hello, dog fanciers, and welcome to our live blog of the 2017 Westminster Kennel Club dog show at Madison Square Garden, which airs from 8 to 11 p.m. on FS1. At the end of the night, after several group competitions, we’ll find out which dog will take best in show.
Here’s a recap of the winners so far:
- Rumor, a German shepherd from Maumee, Ohio, won the herding group for the second consecutive year.
- A Norwegian elkhound named Duffy from Carmel, Calif. won the hound group.

- A Pekingese named Chuckie from Champaign, Ill., took the toy group. (Chuckie is handled by David Fitzpatrick of East Berlin, Pa., who also handled Chuckie’s father, Malachy, the Pekingese that won best in show in 2012.)
- Aftin, a miniature poodle from Wentzville, Mo., represented the non-sporting group.
On Saturday, Trick, a spring-footed border collie from Rhode Island, won the Westminster Masters Agility Championship. On Monday, Linda Brennan, a longtime dog trainer from Columbia in Warren County, and her black Labrador retriever, Heart, won the Masters Obedience Championship for the second year in a row.
Here’s our story on the pumi, a Hungarian herding dog and one of the new breeds — alongside the American hairless terrier and the sloughi (sloo-ghee) — eligible to enter the competition this year. Bikfic, a pumi from Somerville, won “best of opposite sex” at Monday’s breed competition. Check out some scenes from daytime judging in the video below.
