Valle del Jerte, April 3, 2024.-The Denomination of Origin Cereza del Jerte has expressed its “most sincere gratitude for the tribute from Correos” by issuing a stamp dedicated to the Cereza del Jerte, within the ‘Gastronomy D.O.P Extremadura’ series ‘.

The seal, in circulation since last March 25, was presented this Wednesday at an official event in Cabezuela del Valle, Cáceres, attended by the president of the D.O.P Cereza del Jerte, José Antonio Tierno; the director of Philately and Institutional Relations of the Post Office, Nuria Lera, the mayor of Cabezuela del Valle, María Luisa Yuste and the general director of Cooperatives and Social Economy of the Board, Diego Sánchez Duque.

The president of the D.O.P Cereza del Jerte, José Antonio Tierno, has highlighted the “support and recognition of Correos for the work of farmers in these difficult times for the countryside.” “Over the years we have faced challenges and overcome obstacles, with tough campaigns and more generous ones, but always with the support of Correos, which has facilitated the logistics of distribution and has given us the opportunity to promote ourselves in their offices throughout the Spanish territory,” said Tierno.

“At the D.O.P Cereza del Jerte we are deeply grateful for this seal and we are committed to continuing working to bring Jerte cherries and pillory to all audiences,” concluded President Tierno.

For her part, the director of Philately and Institutional Relations of Correos, Nuria Lera Hervás, highlighted that “the Jerte Cherry has been portrayed and will go down in the history of philately and the country through the issuance of this stamp.” “I want to congratulate you for having a world-renowned product and with this seal we intend to make it even more so,” Lera concluded.

This stamp is part of a series that Correos issues dedicated to the Protected Designations of Origin of different Spanish territories. This 2024, the protagonist is Extremadura. Stamps can be purchased at Post Offices or through Correos Market.

The Cereza del Jerte Protected Designation of Origin exclusively covers cherries originating from the production area located in the northern regions of the province of Cáceres and located in the Trasierra-Gredos Sur mountain agriculture area. This area has very specific and homogeneous geographical, physical, historical and cultural characteristics. The cultivation is based on small terraced farms, located on slopes located in shade or sunshine.
