The Bavarian minister-President Horst Seehofer (CSU) apparently wants to end power struggle in his party by means of a consultative body. The former CSU chief and Bavarian prime Minister Edmund Stoiber, CSU honorary chairman Theo Waigel and Landtag President Barbara Stamm are to belong to this, as was EinerCSU board meeting of participants. After great losses of his party, Seehofer is strongly criticised for Bundestag election; His opponents demand that he should give up at least one of his positions as party and country chief.

In context of CSU board meeting, Seehofer promised a “pacifying” solution for future personnel formation of his party. He will hold talks until beginning of December on a “future solution” for CSU, he said according to participant information at beginning of board meeting in Munich. He will be accompanied by Stoiber, Waigel and party vice-President Barbara Stamm.
In run-up to board meeting, Seehofer agreed with deputy CSU chiefs, he said. The trio of Stoiber, Waigel and Stamm will refore help to find solutions for embattled future personnel constellation of CSU by 4 December.
What about Seehofer?
In his introductory statement, however, Seehofer first left his personal future open, and on advice of his closest confidante he would not yet comment on his personal plans for future. Before meeting he had announced that in evening “all will be clear”. The discussion is about a separation of offices, as most promising candidate for post of Prime minister in this case is Bavarian finance Minister Markus Söder. In group, Söder has for a long time had a clear majority behind it.

The young union also called for withdrawal of 68-year-old Seehofer as prime Minister at latest for Landtag election in autumn 2018. In past few weeks, power struggle had led to ever stronger upheavals in CSU, right up to Bavarian cabinet. On or hand, several CSU leaders had recently stressed that Seehofer was indispensable in view of unclear situation in Berlin after failure of Jamaica probes.
Söder said after group meeting on Thursday noon that re was a clear will to come to good results in end. A solution against Söder is still considered unlikely, because it would not be possible to establish peace in party.
