Utility crews have been working to restore natural gas service to about 1,200 customers in Clairton.
Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania cut off service to customers on Monday because of a drop in gas pressure in its lines.
The Clairton City School District canceled classes Tuesday because it was unclear when the service would be restored.
Nearly 80 technicians were going door to in the city about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh on Tuesday to perform safety checks before restoring the service.
The cause of the low pressure in the gas lines was not immediately revealed.
